Ohio State-Miami: The "Pass Interference" Call
Переглядів 333 тис.15 років тому
A breakdown of the Pass Interference call in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Miami Hurricanes. Original Footage Courtesy of ABC Sports Buckeye Argument Courtesy of LucidFaia ua-cam.com/video/NMvjADmxhVw/v-deo.html
Should have been a holding call on Miami like the back judge originally signaled. The referee made the wrong call lol. Either way OSU won fair and square if you watch the back judge make the original call lol
I have never heard so much crying by Miami fans. I think they want cheese with their whines! With 2 minutes left in regulation, Chris Gamble was robbed of a catch that would have ended the game with any kind of score. however, you don't see Dr. Michael Baden come in to do an autopsy of the missed call. So while it was a tough pill to swallow, clearly the pass interference occurred.
Biggest bullshit call in college football history. So much on the line and they make THAT call.
Great video I have been a Hurricanes fan for a very long time and I remember that game and we got screwed of a National Championship.
Canes fans need a reality check. Look at the teams youve lost to in recent years. FIU, MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE, JUST TO NAME A FEW. Plus a losing record vs North Carolina over the last 10 years. Canes, your team will never compete for a title again
It's simply the worst call i have ever seen in sports
This game taught us games can be rigged by crooked officials and Im not even a Miami fan. One that was a tipped pass.. Second ball made contact with the WR before the defender made contact.
Clearly pass interference
Rigged...robbed
STILL PISSED ABOUT IT TIL THIS DAY! WE SHOULD HAVE 6 CHIPS!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
This is why everyone hates the cesspool called Ohio
I hate Miami as much as everyone else, but this was a TERRIBLE call. Maybe the worst call in college football history. There was literally zero contact. Bigtime asterisk if you’re an Ohio St fan
Yes we were robbed 100%
Overall it was a damn mess. Very sloppy game for the Refs. Bad or missed calls on both sides . Utimately the terrible injury to Portis is in my opinion the biggest factor in the game. He had just started to heat up and racking up good runs when he got injured. We know the player he went on to be in the NFL. It’s likely he would have made a big difference had he finished the game. That aside, a late call by a ref not in the field of view is unacceptable regardless of previous missed or bad calls. The Title is tainted.
I can't tell who the bigger cry babies are, OH or U fans. Anyway, they both seem to think they deserve to always win. "OH verses the world, and Thug U"
Cheating ass referee who was from OHIO.. Fck Ohio St and anyone who likes them.. I hope the ref had a terrible life..
As an Ohio State fan, it was not a penalty for pass interference.
I remember watching this game in Miami turn the ball over I think five times. Willis McGahee left the game with a horrible knee injury and yet and still Miami should have won this game if not for that horrible call. I wonder whatever happened to that referee that through the flag
worst call of all time
Dan Fouts was openly rooting for Miami because of Kellen Winslow Jr. He should not have been allowed to call this game because of his ties to the Winslow family. He got diarrhea of the mouth when the call didn't go his way.
Ball was tipped at the line
LETS SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT - There are multiple pictures which show Sample pulling Gambles jersey when he came out of the break. Normally this is holding which if you look at the replays of the referee who threw the flag the first sign he gives is "HOLDING" however since the ball was in the air it becomes pass interference. Nothing is tainted just a bunch of upset fans
I watched that game live 20+ years ago and just now realized that that ball was tipped at the line by a D lineman...I always knew Miami got fucked over but I thought it was just good coverage and a terrible call but wooooooow they really really got fucked over.... By rule there can't be pass interference after a tipped ball🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
The ball was a wounded duck 🦆 and DJ Williams Destroyed Krenzel The U was cheated out of a 🏆
A call that arguably changed the fate of both school’s football programs even now 20 years later. Sheesh
Correct call is defensive holding same result stfu
The DB who made this dies of an OD. Yes!
14 pt favorites have no business crying about a “bad” call in OT. Especially when bad calls were the only reason that they even got to OT 🤷♀️
And the head coach finally got caught cheating & never coaches again. What a story.
Bad call. I don’t think Miami has gotten back to this level since this. I remember watching this when I was younger.
Remember when Kirk Herbstreit and everyone said Miami would win this game by 50? Lol.
Wwaaaaa!!!😭
I feel like the call could’ve gone 50/50 either way. It’s just one of those plays.
What no one seems to be pointing out, and I have yet to see a good camera angle on it, is Sharpe's right hand is on Gamble's left shoulder as Gamble is making his cut inside. Gamble appears to not make the cut cleanly due to Sharpe - it appears as though Gamble's left shoulder/jersey is being held as he's making the cut, as his left shoulder dips. It is fair to say the ball is in the air at this point, thus pass interference. It is also fair to say the back judge would have the angle for this and not the side judge. Is it close? Absolutely. Unless we see a different camera angle, we may never know. Also, one play does not decide the outcome of a football game, all of the plays decide it.
The refs were actually for Miami in that game and Ohio State still won.
anyone else think of this tonight
Just like Superbowl XL.
@@samborgensjr6456 ?
@@favsa5015 That one was also BS.
@@samborgensjr6456 steelers seahawks?
@@favsa5015 Correct.
Ball was tipped at the line before Gamble even made contact with it. Horrible call Miami should have won
Couple things that are NEVER talked about. The replay does not clearly show the hold/grab of the jersey as Gamble makes his break. The back judge actually initially makes the holding call with his hands THEN throws the flag (hence late). Then when he communicates the call on the field to the rest of the officials, he uses the "push" pass interference gesture. I'm not sure why he did that. Keith Jackson was absolutely correct when he said "could have been a hold" which in fact it was. The penalty occurred after the ball was thrown but before the ball arrived. If you look solely at the interaction between the players at the time the balls arrives, it's clearly NOT interference. That's why Miami fans think this is so egregious. If you watch the correct replays, it's clear that Sharpe grabs Gamble's jersey and spins/impedes him as the ball is in the air.
Thank you for this. I agree completely with you that the ref made the wrong call, especially under those circumstances. At this point tho, all I feel like doing is forgiving the poor guy. It happened. I've been a 'Canes fan since I was a teenager, but I can't imagine the amount of hate he must have gotten from Miami fans for this one. Yeah, we were the better team, we completely deserved to go back-to-back, no argument here. And without question it would have helped recruiting, and maybe we might have just returned to our former dynasty days of the 80s, but the poor guy still deserves some clemency from Miami fans at this point. He's only human after all, like all of us.
Only way a big ten school could beat a big east school , lie cheat and steal with help of the refs !!!
Glen Sharpe was holding Gamble more than three yards off the LOS, playing m2m but never turned his head to locate the ball. This is textbook PI and was the correct call. I’m no fan of either of these schools but that was PI then and it would be now.
this is a prime example of how refs have been instructed, FOR DECADES, to keep games as close and tight as possible for maximum excitement and views.
Buckeyes win
GEORGIA BULLDOGS gameplan to WIN by 14 points, clean up turnovers, clean up penalties, and protect your territory on short side of field. *Don't let the OFFICIALS influence the outcome, start laying wood at KICKOFF set the TONE with FOCUS, and make sure YOU CHOP YOUR FEET. Show no partiality to the poor & no favortism to the rich JUDGE FAIRLY......SELAH
They will be SHIFTY & excellent on Reggie Bush cutbacks CHOP YOUR FEET (ACL/MCL)
Wait there were no calls that negatively impacted ohio state that day? A bad call doesn’t taint anything that’s the game. What’s tainted is the U being an irrelevant afterthought ever since. I guess winning in the ACC is more difficult than the big East was.
It obviously should not have been called but I was never so happy as I was when it was.
If I was Miami, I would have simply not lost in 2OT. If I was Miami, I would have simply not allowed this game to even reach overtime. If I was Miami, I would simply have not turned the ball over 5 times. And last but not least, if I was Miami, I simply would not have gone completely irrelevant ever after.
Greatest Screw Job In The History Of Sports
Not really tainted bc Ohio State didn't do anything wrong, they were given another chance and they used it. Cope lol
Worst call in cfb history
